What is the best wine for a romantic evening with my Fiancee? I am no Wine expert, but I believe she enjoys Ziphandel. I am planning on spending a nice, romantic evening with her once I return from Iraq. So after a great dinner and maybe a little time in the hot tub, I want to just sit in front of the fireplace, drink a little wine, and hopefully get busy.
Inglenook White Zin is yummy. A nice Pinot Noir is too.

UB40 – Red Red Wine
Posted by admin | Under Wine Wednesday Jan 27, 2010
UB40 are one of the most successful British acts of all time, with a huge string of hits on both sides of the Atlantic and around the globe. In the UK only three groups (The Beatles, Queen & The Shadows) can claim more hit singles and they’ve also clocked up 14 Top 10 albums. To date, 2002 is the band’s only appearance at the Montreux Festival, and it clearly inspired them to produce one of their finest performances.
This track is available on the Eagle Vision DVD “Live at Montreux 2002″, out now.

What’s the difference between cooking wine and drinking wine?
Posted by admin | Under Wine Tuesday Jan 26, 2010I feel really stupid for asking this question, but I’m a new wine drinker. Does the bottle always specify when a Wine is solely for cooking? Is the alcohol content different? Not planning on drinking cooking wine, obviously, I’m just curious.
I’m a chef and I don’t know of cooking wine with salt in it.
I know of spirits with salt and pepper for cooking, this has to do with taxes.
Most chefs use cheaper or young wines in cooking, because complexity of flavour of a nice wine is lost in the cooking process. Some non-expensive Italian wines are bottled in large 1.5 litre bottles and used mostly in cooking. These could be called cooking wines, but a person with an unsophisticated pallet could still find them drinkable.
Still there is much to be said about using a good wine in cooking the dish and drinking it with the end product. The harmony of flavour will be better. The cost on the other hand will be much greater.
Good question….
Does drinking water after drinking wine make you drunker, or get you drunk again, and why?
Posted by admin | Under Wine Sunday Jan 24, 2010I’ve been a fan of wine for a long time. I have many friends that say wine is great, because after drinking wine, you can drink water, and get drunker or drunk again. Or after a night of drinking wine, in the morning if you drink water, you’ll get drunk again.
Being an avid wine fan, I have yet to ever experience this amazing phenomenon. So, is it true, and if so, why does it work.
I am an avid Wine drinker and this is simply not true. Period. The end.
Mistletoe and Wine by Cliff Richard
Posted by admin | Under Wine Thursday Jan 21, 2010
Sir Cliff Richard, a professed Christian, has had several hits with a Christmas theme.
This one was released in 1988 and reached #1 on the UK secular charts.
Little Town #11 – Dec 1982
Mistletoe and Wine #1 – Dec 1988
Saviour’s Day #1 – Dec 1990
The Millennium Prayer #1 – Dec 1999
Santa’s List #6 – Dec 2003
21st Century Christmas #2 – Dec 2006
The Child is a King, the carollers sing,
The old has passed, there’s a new beginning.
Dreams of santa, dreams of snow,
Fingers numb, faces aglow.
Christmas time, mistletoe and wine
Children singing Christian rhyme
With logs on the fire and gifts on the tree
A time to rejoice in the good that we see
A time for living, a time for believing
A time for trusting, not deceiving,
Love and laughter and joy ever after,
Ours for the taking, just follow the Master.
A time for giving, a time for getting,
A time for forgiving and for forgetting.
Christmas is love, Christmas is peace,
A time for hating and fighting to cease.

What red wine is relatively affordable and will benefit from a few years’ aging?
Posted by admin | Under Wine Monday Jan 18, 2010I am turning 21 this November, and while this means I don’t have a long history with or knowledge of wine consumption and storage, I have greatly enjoyed the few glasses I’ve had with family friends and relatives over the past few years. Because I am not a huge partier, I’d like to commemorate my turning 21 by purchasing a bottle of wine (preferably red) on that day, then save it for a few years to finally open on another birthday. I have no specific plan, I just like the idea of buying a bottle of wine on my 21st and drinking it on some future birthday, as soon as the next year or as late as 50.
Being only 20 I obviously don’t have the grandest budget for this, but I was hoping someone would have a few bottles or vintages I should look into–or just a particular type of wine that is always likely to improve with moderate aging.
Thanks so much!
First you must find a type of red wine you enjoy drinking. There are so many varietials out there. What kinds of foods do you enjoy?
For Steak, you may want a merlot or cabernet
For Lamb, you may want a cebernet or zinfandel
For BBQ, you may want a zinfandel
For grilled chicken and/or pork perhaps a pinot
There’s no right or wrong choice, wine is about preference.
There are a couple great wines out in the market place which are under $40 and have had great reviews and are good to drink now or celler for while. 2003 Whitehall Lane Cabernet has had several great reviews. But there are also sooo many others. Hartford Court also has some wonderful Zinfandels and Pinot’s.
Wine tasting a big thing now… you may want to check out a site called localwineevents.com to see if there is a wine tasting event in your area to gather the information you need to make an informed selection.
